Urrutia Earns NCAA Singles Invite

LEXINGTON, Ky. – No. 42-ranked senior Florencia Urrutia has been invited to participate in the NCAA Singles Championship, the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Subcommittee announced.

Urrutia will compete at the Championships, held May 22-27 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

Urrutia, a native of Santa Fe, Argentina, is currently the No. 42-ranked singles player in NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis with an overall season record of 22-13. Six of her spring victories were over ranked opponents. She saw her highest ranking this season at No. 32 earlier this month.

The senior has been a standout for the Wildcats this season seeing action as the No. 1 and No. 2 Singles competitor. Against SEC opponents, she has held a record of 6-7 throughout her senior spring.

One of Urrutia’s biggest victories this season came from Kentucky’s match against Tennessee in early March. Down from a 5-1 deficit, Urrutia fought hard to defeat the Volunteers’ No. 1 singles competitor, Rebekah Mertena, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Producing winning records in both singles and doubles play, the loud and proud Wildcat has been a force to reckon with during her time at Kentucky. She will graduate with a degree in management and plans to play professionally.
