UKTF Earns Six Wins On Final Day Of Michael Johnson Invitational

WACO, Texas — Kentucky track & field closed out competition at the Michael Johnson Invitational hosted by Baylor University at Hart Track & Field Stadium. The Wildcats earned six event wins on the day and accumulated a total of 24 top ten finishes.

Personal Bests

The Wildcats racked up five personal bests from today’s competition.

Jacob Sobota hit a new mark of 16’8.25”/5.09 meters in the men’s pole vault to finish fourth in the event.

Seven Simms placed 24th in the women’s 400 meters with a new personal best time of 55.90.

Both freshman Colleen Branch and Tamiia Fuller earned personal bests in the women’s 100 meter dash. Branch turned in an 11.51 (0.5) to place eighth while Fuller tied for 21st with a personal best time of 11.78 (0.5).

Justin Swann ran to a new personal best time of 1:48.71 to win the men’s 800 meters.

Over at the Rick Erdman Twilight hosted by Eastern Kentucky University today, Phoebe McCowan earned a personal best of 4:23.11 in the women’s 1,500 meters while Aaron Withrow ran a personal best of 14:30.60 in the men’s 5,000 meters.

Notables

Masai Russell, Shadajah Ballard, and Yasmin Brooks all earned automatic qualifiers in the 100-meter hurdles prelims. Russell ran a 12.80 (0.3) while Ballard ran a 13.32 (0.9) and Brooks ran a 13.39 (-1.0).

Russell went on to win the event with a stadium record time of 12.50 (1.1) while Brooks finished fifth with a season best time of 13.16 (1.1) and Ballard hit a season best time of 13.34 (1.1) to finish eighth and round out three top 10 finishes for the Wildcats.

Just as they did yesterday with the long jump, the Wildcats swept another event this time on the track. Both the men’s and women’s 4×100 meter relays won their respective events.

A team consisting of Victoria Perrow, Anthaya Charlton, Russell, and Karimah Davis won with a time of 43:38 while on the men’s side, a team of Langston Jackson, Kennedy Lightner, Myles Anders, and Brandon Miller ran a season best 39.36 and went to No. 6 on the UK all-time performers list.

The women also won the 4×400 meter relay with Davis, Russell, Dajour Miles, and Megan Moss running a season best time of 3:28.21. The time ranks the group at number six in the nation and number five on the UK all-time performers list.

Wayne Lawrence Jr. ran a season best 45.75 in the men’s 400 meters to finish runner up. He improves his No. 3 mark on the UK all-time performers list with the time. Additionally, Brian Faust earned a top 10 finish placing seventh in the event with a season best time of 46.01.

Josh Sobota placed third in the men’s shot put with a throw of 62’6.75”/19.07 meters while Dennis Ohene-Adu earned a top ten finish at ninth with a mark of 56’10.25”/17.33 meters.

Megan Moss took fourth in the women’s 400 meters with a season best time of 52.55. Dajour Miles placed sixth in the event at 53.17.

Karimah Davis took third in the women’s 100 meter dash with a time of 11.32 (0.2). Victoria Perrow tied for sixth in the event with a time of 11.46 (0.2) while Langston Jackson placed fourth in the men’s 100 meter dash with a time of 10.45.

Dalton Shepler earned a top 10 finish in the pole vault vaulting at 16’2.50”/4.94 meters to place eighth.

Simisola Akinrinsola placed 10th in the women’s shot put with a mark of 47’0.75”/14.34 meters.
