Kentucky Reaches New Heights as No. 3 Seed for SEC Gymnastics Championship
LEXINGTON, Ky. – No. 8 Kentucky gymnastics will compete in the evening session of the upcoming Southeastern Conference Gymnastics Championship, the conference announced on Monday. The Wildcats are the third overall seed for the first time in program history, making the evening session for the first time since 2019.
Kentucky closed out its most-successful regular season to date with a 197.800 overall tally on the road at Illinois last Saturday. The top mark was the highest road score recorded in program history and third best overall.
The Cats have rewritten the record books multiple times this season setting new program record meet scores. UK recorded a 197.825 against Alabama early in the season topping the overall program best. However, Kentucky did not stop there, breaking that record at home against Arkansas scoring a 197.875.
In addition to those record breaks, Kentucky has also set new standards on each apparatus with new highs or current best ties. This does not include the numerous individual records that have been set or broken as well.
Seeding for the SEC Gymnastics Championships is based on final regular-season Team National Qualifying Scores (NQS).
The 2023 SEC Gymnastics Championship will take place on Saturday, March 18 at Gas South Arena in Duluth, Ga. Session I will feature seeds 5-8 at 3:30 p.m. ET, and Session II will feature seeds 1-4 at 8 p.m. ET. Both sessions of the championships will air live on SEC Network.
