Kentucky Hosts Evansville in Home Opener on Tuesday
Kentucky begins a 10-game homestand on Tuesday at 4 p.m. vs. Evansville in the 2023 home opener at Kentucky Proud Park. The Wildcats will host Wright State this weekend.
The Cats (2-1) dropped the season opener, 2-0, at Elon but responded nicely with a pair of wins to become the only team in the Southeastern Conference to win a true road series on opening weekend.
UK’s pitching carried the weekend, allowing just three runs in 26 innings. Its 1.04 team earned average ranks fifth nationally and it is eighth in walks/hits per innings pitched. Redshirt freshman Travis Smith is expected to get the start on the mound Tuesday.
Evansville was swept at Troy over the weekend, although all three contests were competitive. Former Wildcat and Lexington native Brendan Hord will return home leading the Purple Aces in RBI with six.
