Swim & Dive Sweeps Cincinnati in Final Dual Meet
CINCINNATI, Ohio. – Kentucky swimming and diving closed its dual meet season with a resounding sweep over Cincinnati on Friday afternoon at the Keating Aquatic Center. The Kentucky men picked up their first dual meet victory of the season while the UK women made it three consecutive victories. Final tallies favored the Wildcats 180-117 (men) and 210-85 (women).
Kentucky won 27 events in all, with 20 different individuals claiming victories. Multi-event winners for the Wildcats included Kaitlynn Wheeler (Women’s 50 Free, Women’s 100 Fly), Max Berg (Men’s 50 Free, Men’s 200 IM), Kyndal Knight (Women’s 1-mtr and 3-mtr diving) and Sam Duncan (Men’s 1-mtr and 3-mtr diving).
The Wildcats finished with 12 podiums sweeps, 10 on the women’s side and two on the men’s. Junior Bridget Engel posted the day’s lone B-cut with a time of 1:01.55 in the 100 breast.
Other highlights from the meet included a total of six personal bests: Zane Rosely in the 200 free (1:39.04) and 200 breast (2:03.46), Logan Ingerick in the 200 fly (1:51.61), Jodi Ogle in the 200 breast (2:23.10), Anna Havens Rice in the 500 Free (4:58.17) and Denise Phelan 100 fly (56.87).
In diving, both Knight and Duncan set pool records, the former on the 1-meter and the latter the 3-meter platform.
Kentucky’s victories mark the 13th straight time in which the Wildcats have swept Cincinnati dating back to the 2009-10 season.
Just one more meet stands between UK and the SEC Championships, with the Wildcats scheduled to compete at the Ohio State First Chance Meet in Columbus Feb. 9-11.
