WOMEN’S BASKETBALL POSTGAME QUOTES
Kentucky Head Coach Kyra Elzy
On the key to Kentucky’s defense tonight …
“I think Jada (Walker) makes us go defensively. The heat that she brought to the basketball, we forced 17 turnovers. I told the team we played hard, but we just didn’t play ball smart all the time. All things that we can go back and fix. I would rather them play hard and go back and find the mistakes we made.”
On a tight score in the season opener …
“Well first we’ll take any win. Any win is a great win and we will take it. Obviously, the ultimate goal is to win. We’ll be back to work on Wednesday, continuing to work on our defensive execution. About the fourth quarter, we made some crucial defensive mistakes either helping too much or giving up 3’s but hats off to Radford. I thought they came in here with an excellent game plan and made us defend late into the shot clock and made us pay for our defensive mistakes.”
On what type of veteran composure does this team have …
“They have a great feel since they’ve been in this situation before. They both have put the ball in the basket. I think Blair (Green) is getting great looks at the 3, they’re just not falling for her, but she can still hit that shot.”

On what was going right for Kentucky on offense …
“We were just taking advantage of our opportunities and relying on our teammates. They were really finding me for some easy buckets.”
On what Kentucky can improve on before their next game …
“Our defense. I got scored on a couple of times. I need to be a better defender through the shot clock and just collectively as a whole play better on the defensive end and then manage the game better.”
On what was the most difficult thing about having so many new players …
“It’s the first game, that means we have a lot of room to improve and grow as a team. We’re just focusing on getting better as the season goes on. That is what we are hoping for.”

On what was going right for Kentucky on offense …
“I feel like we were being aggressive from the beginning. But (we have to be better at) getting to the basket. We had a lot of paint points and that was one of our team goals going into this game.”
On what Kentucky can improve on before their next game …
“I would say locking in on defense for the whole shot clock. They kind of made us work a little bit for the whole entire time. We just have to work on that.”
On what was the most difficult thing about having so many new players …
“It is really just chemistry. Getting used to each other on court, trusting each other on offense and defense that we can do certain things.”
