Dub(le) Play: Darren Williams Announces Return to Kentucky

by UK ACPR

Kentucky native Darren Williams on Monday officially announced his return for his final season of collegiate eligibility, the third veteran pitcher to declare an intention to play for the Wildcats in 2023.

Williams, a right-hander from Maysville, Kentucky, currently is rehabilitating from elbow surgery that prematurely ended his 2022 campaign. He recently began playing catch, just four months after his surgery.

A beloved teammate in the locker room and dugout, Williams was on his way to a record-breaking season, having just entered the weekend rotation when he left a start early vs. eventual national champion Ole Miss on April 2. He was having a sensational season after transferring to UK from Eastern Kentucky, posting a 3-0 record and 0.93 earned run average with a save in 29.0 innings.  He had 31 strikeouts and only three extra-base hits allowed.

Williams joins lefty Tyler Bosma and right-hander Zack Lee as having announced their return this summer.
