UKTF Sends Five Wildcats to Texas Relays and Raleigh Relays

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky women’s track & field is sending Annika Williams and Sophie Galloway to compete in the heptathlon at the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday and Thursday, while Kaitlyn Lacy, Sophie Carrier and Sarah Michels will compete in the 10,000-meters at Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, North Carolina on Thursday. 

Texas will host the Texas Relays in Mike A. Myers Stadium while North Carolina State University will host the Raleigh Relays at the Paul Derr Track. 

The Heptathlon at Texas Relays begins at 11:30 a.m. ET/10:30 a.m. CT on Wednesday with the 100-meter hurdles. The high jump, shot put, and 200m will also be on the first day of competition. Thursday’s first heptathlon event is the long jump at 11 a.m. ET, followed by the javelin and the 800m to conclude the event series. 

The first of three sections of the women’s 10,000m at the Raleigh Relays begins at 9:05 p.m., the second at 9:45 p.m. and the third at 10:25 p.m.

Texas Relays Competitors 

Williams is set to compete in her first heptathlon of the 2022 outdoor season on Wednesday and Thursday. 

Her last heptathlon was at SEC Outdoor Championships, where she placed fifth with a personal best score of 5,530 points. 

One of Williams’ best heptathlon/pentathlon events is the high jump. She competed in the individual high jump at 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships and placed 11th (5’11.25″/1.81m), earning second-team All-America honors. 

At this year’s SEC Indoor Championships, Williams placed sixth (4,072 pts) in the pentathlon with her best marks coming from the high jump and shot put. She won the pentathlon shot put with a personal best throw of 43’1″/13.13m and placed second in the pentathlon high jump with a height of 5’9.25″/1.76m. 

Galloway made her debut as a Wildcat at the Black and Gold Invitational, competing in the 200m, javelin, high jump and javelin throw, all of which are heptathlon events. 

The freshman from Mayfield, Kentucky earned her best finish in the javelin with a throw of 124’0″/37.79m for seventh place. She also placed 12th in the high jump (5’1.75″/1.57m). 

Raleigh Relays Competitors 

Lacy will run her first collegiate 10,000m on Thursday evening, as she typically runs the 1500m, 3000m and 5000m in the outdoor season. She most recently ran the 1500m in Orlando with a time of 4:31.19 seconds. 

During this past indoor season, Lacy ran a personal best 3000m at the McCravy (9:37.26). 

Her best 5000m of 16:26.63 was earned at the Joe Walker Invitational in April 2021. 

Carrier ran the 5000m at the Music City Challenge in February, finishing with a time of 17:21.01. 

Carrier’s best and most recent 10,000m came at last year’s outdoor SECs where she ran 35:47.65 for 14th place. 

Michels also last ran at the Music City Challenge, running the 5000m in 17:46.47. 

Her best 10,000m of her career was from 2021 outdoor SECs where she ran 38:09.36.
