Sean Harney Named to Stopper of the Year Watch List
Kentucky senior pitcher Sean Harney has been named to the 2022 Stopper of the Year Watch List, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced. Harney began 2021 as the closer but moved into the starting rotation after injuries to the pitching staff.
Harney finished 3-2 with a 3.69 earned run average and six saves last spring. He struck out 58 hitters in 46.1 innings and could end up on UK’s career charts for saves and strikeouts per nine innings (at least 50 innings pitched). He is the only pitcher in school history to both save six and start six games in a single season.
The Cats are entering their sixth season under head coach Nick Mingione and have won 143 games during his tenure, including a 29-win season in 2021. The Wildcats added eight Division I-A transfers during the offseason and boast one of the deepest pitching staffs in recent memory with the return of the entire weekend rotation, talented bullpen and experienced transfers.
