Kentucky Welcomes Ball State for Excite Night
LEXINGTON, Ky. – After back-to-back false starts caused by circumstances outside the program, the Kentucky Wildcats are officially set to kick off the 2022 gymnastics season with Excite Night inside Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center against the Ball State Cardinals on Friday at 7 p.m. ET.
The meet will be broadcast live on SEC Network with Sam Gore and Ashley Miles on the call.
Kentucky returns all 24 routines from last year’s season finale that tied the program’s all-time scoring record with a 197.600 performance in the 2021 NCAA Salt Lake City Regional final. The Wildcats are led into the new year by junior all-arounder Raena Worley, a reigning second-team Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association Regular Season All-American. Kentucky also returns fellow All-Southeastern Conference honorees Josie Angeny, Bailey Bunn, Anna Haigis and Arianna Patterson.
Kentucky was originally scheduled to open the 2022 season at Arizona State on Jan. 5 before the meet was canceled due to health and safety protocols within the Sun Devils’ gymnastics program. Georgia was initially slated to follow with a visit to Lexington for Excite Night, but that matchup was postponed due to health and safety protocols within the Bulldogs’ program.
Ball State will compete the first of what are now two meets scheduled for this weekend after opening the season with a second-place finish (193.775) in a tri-meet against Illinois State (191.600) at Missouri (196.600) on SEC Network.
