Stumler Named Most Outstanding Player of Dayton Invitational

DAYTON, Ohio – Kentucky Volleyball senior Alli Stumler was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2021 Dayton Invitational, with Azhani Tealer and freshman Emma Grome also being named to the All-Tournament Team, it was announced Monday.
 
Stumler led Kentucky to a three-game sweep of the Dayton Invitational, as UK beat Texas State, Dayton and Cincinnati to open the 2021 season with a 3-0 record. The Floyds Knobs, Indiana native registered 3.67 kills per set and had 10+ kills in two of UK’s three matches.
 
Tealer, a junior middle blocker from Grand Prairie, Texas, had 1.67 blocks per set and 15 blocks on the weekend along with 2.44 kills per set. Tealer had eight blocks vs. Texas State, a new career-high total for a three-set match in her career. She also registered a .600 hitting percentage.
 
Freshman setter Emma Grome averaged 10.7 assists per set, totaling 97 assists on the weekend in the nine sets UK played. The Loveland, Ohio native also added in 1.78 digs per set and 0.44 blocks per set, including the first solo stuff of her UK career vs. Dayton in the featured match Saturday night.
 
The Wildcats will open up its 2021 home slate of matches Friday night as part of the 2021 Bluegrass Battle in Memorial Coliseum against Northern Iowa at 7:30 p.m. ET. Prior to the match, UK will unveil its 2020 NCAA National Championship banner. Tickets are available at the UK ticket office or can be purchased at the gate on match day.
