Wildcats Set for NCAA Singles, Doubles Tournaments

ORLANDO, Fla. – Four members of the Kentucky Wildcats men’s tennis team are set to compete for a national title next week at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.

Liam Draxl, Millen Hurrion and Gabriel Diallo will participate as individuals in the singles tournament at the NCAA Championships, while Diallo will also pair up with César Bourgois for doubles competition.

Draxl enters the competition as the No. 1 seed among the 64-player singles field after holding the top spot in the ITA Singles Rankings since April 14. The first-team All-Southeastern Conference sophomore is scheduled to take on Ohio State senior John McNally in the first round on Sunday at 10 a.m. ET.

Hurrion—the nation’s No. 33 singles player—will compete Sunday at 11 a.m. against No. 42 Adria Soriano Barrera of Miami.

Diallo will wrap up the Wildcats’ first-round singles competition on Sunday at 3 p.m. The 6-foot-7, 14th-ranked sophomore is set to face No. 34 Hamish Stewart, a senior from Tulane.

Diallo and Bourgois will begin doubles play in the first round of the 32-pair tournament on Monday after the conclusion of the day’s singles bouts. The sixth-ranked duo will face No. 22 Tristan McCormick and Axel Nefve of Notre Dame in a rematch of a 6-3 win for the Cats on Jan. 31.

Similar to dual match competition, every matchup will play out to the best of three sets. No-ad scoring and a seven-point tiebreaker (first to seven points, must win by two points) at six-games-all will be used for all matches. In doubles, a 10-point match tiebreaker will be played in lieu of a third set.
