Rivalry Renewed: Kentucky, Louisville Square Off in Round One

by UK Athletics Communications and PR

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky and Louisville will renew their acquaintance on the baseball diamond on Tuesday night, as the Wildcats travel an hour west to face the No. 5 Cardinals at Jim Patterson Stadium. The rivals also will meet on April 20 in Lexington.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET and will be aired live on the ACC Network and WatchESPN app. The UK Sports Network will broadcast the game via radio on 630 AM (WLAP) Lexington and on UKAthletics.com, with Darren Headrick on the call.

For UK, it will be the fourth consecutive game against a top five opponent and seventh road tilt in the past eight games before returning to Kentucky Proud Park this weekend to host LSU. In its last series the Cats (18-7 overall, 5-4 SEC) battled No. 5 Mississippi State tooth and nail in Starkville before ultimately dropping a pair of one-run decisions in the three-game series.

UK has not beaten the Cardinals in Louisville since 2013 but did split the regular season home-and-home in both 2017 and 2018 under head coach Nick Mingione. Louisville won both meetings in 2019 and the teams did not play last season due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
