Cats to Host No. 10 South Carolina on Friday

by Connor Link

LEXINGTON, Ky. – After three full weeks away from its home court, No. 22 Kentucky (14-5, 4-4 Southeastern Conference) is set to return to Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex for a showdown with No. 10 South Carolina (11-6, 6-3 SEC) on Friday.

Originally scheduled to begin later that evening, first serve between the Wildcats and Gamecocks has been bumped up to 5 p.m. ET.

Kentucky enters Friday led by reigning SEC Co-Newcomers of the Week Liam Draxl and Gabriel Diallo, who combined for five ranked wins last weekend. Draxl will have his hands full on the top singles court, likely facing No. 1 Daniel Rodrigues.

The matchup would mark the second for Draxl—who enters Friday as the nation’s No. 7 singles player—versus the top-ranked player in the country after defeating the University of Southern California’s then-No. 1 Daniel Cukierman 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 on Feb. 10.

The Cats look to stop a two-match skid in SEC play, while South Carolina is fresh off a 7-0 victory over No. 31 Arkansas. Kentucky swept the Razorbacks by the same score on March 5.
