No. 19 Kentucky Ready to Bounce Back Sunday vs. Winthrop

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Looking to get back in the win column after a tough road loss at top-10 ranked Indiana last weekend, the No. 19 University of Kentucky women’s basketball team starts a five-game homestand Sunday as they play host to Winthrop at 2 p.m. ET inside Memorial Coliseum.
 
Single-game tickets are $10 (all ages) in reversed seating areas, while general admission tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children (ages 6-18) and seniors (age 65+). Children aged 5 and under do not require a ticket in general admission areas. Kentucky women’s basketball 2021-22 season tickets are on sale at UKathletics.com/tickets. Regardless of vaccination status, all guests will be required to wear a mask while visiting Memorial Coliseum. Fans will not be required to show proof of vaccination to enter, but face coverings – covering the nose and mouth – are required for all fans as they watch the game from their seat and enter, exit, and move around Memorial Coliseum. Children 2 and younger will not be required to wear a mask. If spectators are unable to wear masks, they are encouraged not to attend in person for the sake of their health and the health of others.
 
Doors to Memorial Coliseum will open one hour prior to tip. All bags must adhere to the UK Athletics Clear Bag policy. All bags and items will be searched. To avoid additional touch points, fans are strongly encouraged to not bring unnecessary bags to Memorial Coliseum. More on UK Athletics’ Clear Bag policy can be found online, here
 
Parking for games is available starting three hours prior to tip off in a majority of surface lots surrounding Memorial Coliseum, including the High Street Lot, East Maxwell Lot, Joe Craft Center Lot, College View Lot, Alumni Center Lot and Career Center Lot. The Cornerstone Garage and Parking Structure 2 open two hours prior to tip. The Gatton Student Center Lot is pay-to-park while all other parking options are free. The JCC Lot is primarily used limited mobility/handicap parking. No shuttles are being offered from any lot this season.
 
Sunday’s game will be broadcast live on SEC Network+ with Jeff Piecoro and Christi Thomas on the call. Darren Headrick will have the call on the UK Sports Network. Live stats and free live audio will be available online at UKathletics.com.
 
Kentucky (2-1) is coming off a 88-67 loss at top-10 ranked Indiana last weekend in Bloomington. Senior guard Rhyne Howard led Kentucky with 23 points, adding nine rebounds. Freshman Jada Walker performed brilliantly in her first collegiate road test, coming off the bench to score 16 points in 27 minutes of action. IU outscored UK by 15 in the second half, including a nine-point edge in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
 
Howard leads Kentucky this season by averaging 19.3 points per game with 7.7 rebounds per game, 10 assists and nine steals. Redshirt junior forward Dre’una Edwards is averaging 18.0 points per game with 5.3 rebounds per game, while senior guard Robyn Benton had scored in double figures and hit a 3 in every game this season.
 
Kentucky leads the all-time record against Winthrop 2-0. Both games have been played in Lexington. The last meeting was Dec. 11, 2019 when UK earned a 91-36 victory over the Eagles in Rupp Arena. The other meeting was Jan. 3, 2000, when UK def. WU 94-39.
 
Winthrop (0-3) will have a quick turnaround for the game after falling at UNC Greensboro on Thursday evening, 69-39. The Eagles started their season with a 95-39 loss at Duke on Nov. 9 and then fell at Iona on Nov. 13, 67-45. After Sunday’s game, Winthrop will return to Rock Hill, South Carolina for its home opener.
 
Sophomore guard J’Mani Ingram leads the team this season by averaging 13.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game with five steals. Junior guard Myra Strickland is averaging 10 points per game with 5.0 rebounds, while freshman guard Leonor Paisana has a team-best nine assists this season.
