Bailey Rouse Begins Back to School Drive

by Madison Dennis

LEXINGTON, Ky. – There is an old Disney song that says, “Mother Knows Best”, something that Kentucky men’s soccer midfielder Bailey Rouse has always known. But recently, he took an example from his mother and put it into action.

Rouse, a graduate student, was inspired by his mother, Jenifer Rouse, to have a school supply drive because his mother’s students didn’t have the resources to get their own supplies, which are not included in general school fees.

“She was talking about students were having a hard time getting all the supplies they need because they were coming from COVID-19,” Rouse said. “So, it was like the first time they were back in the classroom.”

Despite the fact that there is an emphasis on the importance of education across the nation, many people do not generally think about hidden fees and supplies that some students may not be able to afford.

“That’s something people don’t really think about, but there are a lot of hidden fees, that come along every year with school,” Rouse said. “Whether that’s with clothes or supplies, really whatever.”

His hope is that community understands they can help in any way, big or small.

“The school drive is something we may not see every day, so it reminds you can help out at any time of year and in any way,” Rouse said. “Because there are always people in need.”

Rouse will be collecting school supplies in bins outside of the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex at every remaining men’s and women’s UK soccer home game, beginning on Sunday. Fans and community members are encouraged to donate the following suggested items:
