Blue Team Dominates in Annual Blue-White Meet

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky swimming and diving team kicked off the 2021-22 season with the annual blue-white intrasquad meet on Friday afternoon at the Lancaster Aquatic Center. The blue team dominated the meet, finishing with 306.5 points to the white team’s 276.5 en route to snapping the white team’s eight-year winning streak.
“It was a fun meet highlighted by the blue team winning for the very first time since I’ve been here,” said senior co-captain Riley Gaines. “I think this puts us in a really good spot for Indiana coming up, so we’re super excited. It was a fun environment for the last one for our seniors.”
The Wildcats competed in 32 events, including four diving events. Two meet records were broken during the fun, spirited scrimmage: Kyle Barker reset the mark in the men’s 100 back while Gaines eclipsed the record in the women’s 50 free.
“It was a good blue and white meet, and we ended it with the blue team on top,” said Barker. “A lot of the freshmen stepped up, and we’re excited for Indiana in 10 days.”
