Marcel Meinzer, Robert Screen Named to C-USA Preseason Team
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky men’s soccer seniors Marcel Meinzer and Robert Screen were named to the Conference USA Preseason Team on Monday, while the Wildcats were picked to finish third as a team in a preseason poll of the nine head coaches across the league.
Both Meinzer and Screen earned All-C-USA recognition last season. Meinzer was a 2020 All-C-USA first-team honoree, as well as 2020 C-USA Co-Midfielder of the Year alongside Vitor Dias of Marshall. Meinzer recorded eight points via three goals and two assists in his junior campaign, and the Herxheim, Germany, native is set to serve as a UK team captain for the second consecutive season.
Screen was a second-team All-C-USA defender as a junior, recording six points by way of one goal and four assists. The Raleigh, North Carolina, native was the only Wildcat to start all 19 games last season.
Only top-ranked reigning national champion Marshall and No. 18 Charlotte were predicted to finish higher than No. 14 Kentucky in the 2021 standings.
Admission to all 2021 UK soccer matches at Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex is free to the public. For the latest on the Kentucky men’s soccer team, follow @UKMensSoccer on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, as well as on the web at UKAthletics.com.
