Kentucky Baseball Adds Eight Division I-A Transfers
Kentucky baseball has added eight Division I-A transfers for the 2022 season, all of whom are immediately eligible to play under the NCAA’s one-time transfer rule. The group consists of four pitchers and four position players, including the America East Conference Player of the Year.
With a relatively young roster returning UK targeted experience in the transfer portal. The four position players – outfielders Adam Fogel, Hunter Jump and John Thrasher along with infielder Daniel Harris IV – have nearly 2,500 combined career collegiate plate appearances and 572 games started. Thrasher was the America East Player of the Year and Fogel a second-team All-Big West honoree in 2021, while Harris was a third-team All-American in 2020.
Experience also was the objective on the mound and the Cats loaded up with a quartet of pitchers who have logged 368.1 career innings. Left-hander Tyler Bosma and righty Darren Williams each have starting experience on the weekend, while right-hander Tyler Guilfoil was one of the top closers in the Atlantic Sun Conference and southpaw Magdiel Cotto a top 50 overall prospect in the class of 2020.
“We are excited to bring this group of young men into our program,” UK coach Nick Mingione said. “There is no substitute for experience and we added a wealth of it. Offensively, all four players have had success at the Division I level and bring impressive versatility. On the mound, each of them have pitched in a variety of roles and give our pitching staff depth and flexibility.”
