Kentucky Baseball Has Georgia On Its Mind
Kentucky baseball is getting used to life on the road.
For the third time in four weekends the Wildcats travel to face a Southeastern Conference opponent, this time heading to Athens to face No. 20 Georgia in a three-game series that opens Friday night at Foley Field. The Cats (21-9, 6-6 SEC) are 4-3 so far on the road this season.
Friday evening’s first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET, while Saturday is a 7 p.m. start and Sunday’s series finale is at 1 p.m. Saturday’s game will air nationally on the SEC Network. Friday and Sunday’s games will stream live on Watch ESPN/SEC Network+. All three games are available on radio on 630-AM WLAP (Lexington) and 1080-AM WKJK (Louisville) or UKathletics.com.
On Tuesday, the Cats picked up their third shutout of the season in a 12-0 win over Bellarmine at Kentucky Proud Park. UK scored six runs in the first inning, capped by Jacob Plastiak’s first career home run, and cruised to the win on the strength of 17 strikeouts from its pitching staff. Coupled with Sunday’s win over LSU the Cats now have scored 25 runs in the past two games.
The offense will face a stiff challenge in a Georgia (21-10, 5-7) team that just took two of three games at then-No. 1 Vanderbilt last weekend, which resulted in the Bulldogs winning both SEC Player and Pitcher of the Week. UK did have success last time it traveled to Georgia, becoming the only SEC team to win at series at Foley Field during the 2018 and 2019 seasons, a span of 10 series.
