LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis program has earned back-to-back Southeastern Conference weekly honors, after the league office named Elizabeth Stevens the SEC Freshman of the Week on Wednesday afternoon.

The freshman from Tigard, Oregon, helped Kentucky to a pair of dominating performances in its first road trip of the season last weekend. The Cats defeated Missouri in a 4-1 decision and upset No. 23 Arkansas in a 4-1 decision, marking Kentucky’s first road wins, first ranked wins and first back-to-back conference wins this season.

Stevens played a monster role in those outcomes, sweeping her competition in both singles and doubles. Meanwhile, her wins in the singles column marked her first in the conference this spring.

The rookie defeated Marta Oliveira at Missouri on the No. 4 singles court in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. She also rallied past Lauren Alter at No. 23 Arkansas on the No. 5 singles court in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0.

In the doubles competition, Stevens and Carla Girbau led Tigers’ Gabrielle Goldin and Valentina Vazquez 5-4 before the match went unfinished. However, the UK duo took down Razorbacks’ Morgan Cross and Indiana Spink 6-2, helping Kentucky to its 12th doubles point of the season. Both matches were contested on the No. 2 doubles court.

In their next appearance, the Wildcats will meet No. 11 Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee, on Sunday, March 21 for a 2 p.m. ET first serve.
