Kentucky Returns to Diamond to Face Western Kentucky

by UK Athletics Communications and PR

LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the second consecutive Tuesday the Kentucky baseball team will welcome an in-state opponent to Kentucky Proud Park, this time hosting Western Kentucky for a late afternoon affair.

First pitch is scheduled for a 4 p.m. ET first pitch and will be streamed live on the SEC Network+/Watch ESPN platforms. The UK Sports Network will broadcast the game via radio on 98.5 FM Lexington and on UKAthletics.com.

The Wildcats (7-2) are coming off a 3-2 week that concluded with a hard-fought, pitching-filled weekend series vs. Ball State. UK vanquished Eastern Kentucky and Evansville during the week before sandwiching a 6-0 win over Ball State in between a pair of one-run defeats, including Sunday’s 4-3 final.

Despite the series loss to the Cardinals, the UK pitching staff continued its excellent early season form. The Wildcats lead the nation in strikeout-to-walk ratio, having punched out 100 hitters while walking just 17. The staff’s 2.10 earned run average ranks ninth nationally and it also ranks third in walks allowed per nine innings at under two per game.

Freshman right-hander Ryan Hagenow is expected to draw his third start of the season. He is 1-0 with a 1.12 ERA in eight innings, allowing just six hits, one run, one walk and striking out nine thus far.
