LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team defeated Western Kentucky in a 7-0 sweep on Saturday afternoon inside the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center. The Wildcats improved to a 7-0 mark on the season, the program’s best record since starting out 9-0 in 2009.

Kentucky competed in seven matches in a matter of just nine days, meanwhile recording five 7-0 sweeps during that time. The Wildcats boast a 14-0 doubles record and a 39-3 singles record.

Holding down the No. 1 doubles court all year, Akvile Paražinskaite and Fiona Arrese defeated Cora-Lynn von Dungern and Lisa Friess in a 6-2 outcome. Following that performance, on the No. 3 doubles court, Lesedi Jacobs and Salsa Aher defeated Lauren Joch and Tristen Bryant-Otake in a 6-2 decision, helping UK to its seventh straight doubles point.

Proving Kentucky’s depth and fresh talent, two freshmen were the quickest to finish their singles matches.

Newcomer Arrese defeated Bryant-Otake on the third court in a swift 6-2, 6-2 final mark. Following Arrese, rookie Aher defeated Samantha Martinez on the fourth court in a near-perfect 6-1, 6-0 outcome.

Recording her seventh straight singles win on the top court, Paražinskaite took down Topper Dungern in a 6-1, 6-3 race.

Competing on the second singles court for the first time this season, Carla Girbau rallied past Laura Bernardos in a lopsided 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4) decision. Next, Diana Tkachenko defeated Alexis Cramer on the sixth court, 6-2, 6-2, in her season debut.

Closing out the match, Maialen Morante earned a 7-6, 6-2 final mark over Friess on the fifth court.

Kentucky will take a one-week hiatus before its next match, competing against Notre Dame on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 11 a.m. ET inside the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center. It is UK’s last nonconference match of the season, before the Southeastern Conference schedule begins on Thursday, Feb. 18 against Texas A&M for an 11 a.m. ET first serve at home.
