UK Men’s Tennis Adds Battle with Bellarmine
LEXINGTON, Ky. – No. 25 Kentucky (3-0) will return to action sooner than originally scheduled, adding an in-state battle with Bellarmine (0-2) on Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET indoors at Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.
The Wildcats were initially slated to host VCU on Friday, but the contest was replaced by a matchup with the Knights under the guidance of health and safety protocols.
Kentucky holds a 6-3 advantage in its all-time head-to-head series with Bellarmine, though Friday will mark the first meeting between the teams since the Knights joined Division I prior to this season.
The Cats opened the spring with three straight wins last weekend, sweeping Illinois State by scores of 7-0 and 4-0 on Saturday and defeating ETSU 5-2 on Sunday. Forty-fifth-ranked Liam Draxl (3-0) and team captains Millen Hurrion (3-0) and César Bourgois (2-0) led the way with undefeated runs on the singles court.
Draxl has competed from the No. 1 singles slot in all three matches, finishing first in both installments of Saturday’s doubleheader and clinching Sunday’s team victory. The sophomore also holds a perfect 3-0 record in doubles play.
Bellarmine opened its season on the wrong side of two 7-0 road trips, falling to Mississippi State on Jan. 15 and Memphis on Jan. 17.
