Duvall Named SEC Freshman of the Week
LEXINGTON, Kentucky – After turning in the fastest 8,000-meter time of any Southeastern Conference freshman this season, Matt Duvall of the Kentucky cross country team has been named the SEC Men’s Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
On Saturday in the “Live at Lou” Classic in Louisville, Duvall led the Wildcat contingent by finishing fifth in the race with a time of 23:51. Among the field of 66 runners, he was the only freshman to finish in the top 10 of the event. He turned in a steady performance on the E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park course, as he assumed 11th place early in the run and gradually moved up to his final slot of fifth.
Duvall, from Pickerington, Ohio, has the two fastest 8k times of any SEC freshman this season. On Sept. 19, he won the Commodore Classic with a pace of 24:34.5 and was named SEC Men’s Co-Runner of the Week for that performance.
