UK Men’s Tennis Adds Tate Sandman to Top-20 Recruiting Class

LEXINGTON, Ky. – After concluding the shortened 2019-20 campaign with a 12-5 record in dual matches and a 3-1 mark in Southeastern Conference play, the Kentucky Wildcats officially added Tate Sandman on Friday to a top-20 recruiting class set to take the court next season.

Rated a four-star player by Tennis Recruiting Network, Sandman joins Joshua Lapadat of London, Ontario, and redshirt freshman Heman Nama in the nation’s 19th-ranked class.

“We are very excited to have Tate join our team,” said head coach Cedric Kauffmann. “He is a great kid that comes from a good family. Tate is a motivated player and has lots of potential. We are really looking forward to getting started with him.”

Sandman will move to Lexington by way of Raleigh, North Carolina. With an overall record of 41-27 and an 11.38 Universal Tennis Rating, he enters college as the No. 2 player to hail from the state.

“I chose to come play at Kentucky because I really felt like it was a good fit and the guys on the team are like a big family,” Sandman said. “I really enjoy Coach Kauffmann and look forward to growing as a player with him.”

The Cats look to return all but two competitors from last season, including fifth-year letter-winner César Bourgois and the 10th-ranked recruiting class of 2019.
