Korth, Angeny Earn All-SEC Honors, Worley Named SEC All-Freshman

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Southeastern Conference revealed its annual postseason gymnastics awards on Tuesday, bestowing league honors on three Kentucky Wildcats. Mollie Korth and Josie Angeny earned All-SEC distinction, while Raena Worley was recognized as SEC All-Freshman.

Korth officially becomes the third Wildcat in program history designated All-SEC in four consecutive seasons, joining former teammate Alex Hyland (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019) and eight-time NCAA champion Jenny Hansen (1993, 1994, 1995, 1996).

In a season without a proper conference championship, the All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman teams were decided by the respective top two final National Qualifying Scores (including ties) on each event of the projected first and second sessions of the SEC Championship, as seeded by the final team NQS.

Korth adds to a list of 2020 individual accolades that includes three Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association Regular Season All-America distinctions and a selection as one of six finalists for the AAI Award, presented annually to the most outstanding collegiate senior female gymnast in the country and ultimately claimed by Oklahoma’s Maggie Nichols. Korth was dubbed the season’s first SEC Gymnast of the Week on Jan. 7 and SEC Specialist of the Week on Feb. 25.

The native of Cambridge, Wisconsin, finished her final collegiate campaign with an NQS of 9.925 on vault in a tie for fourth place in the nation and first in the conference. Korth’s 9.900 NQS on bars tied for 16th overall and placed sixth in the league, and her all-around NQS of 39.520 ranked ninth overall and third in the conference.

She earned five individual victories on vault for a career total of 23, six wins on bars for a total of 20, one on balance beam for a total of four, three on floor exercise for a total of 11 and seven all-around wins for a total of 23. Her career highs include scores of 9.975 on vault, 9.950 on bars, 9.925 on beam, 9.950 on floor (four times) and 39.675 all-around.

Korth is an 11 All-American in total and a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient after opening her career as the 2017 SEC Freshman of the Year during her first semester on campus.

Angeny joins Hansen, Julia Gore (2000), Aronda Primault (2002), Alexis Gross (2013), Taylor Puryear (2015), Sydney Waltz (2015), Sidney Dukes (2016, 2017), Hyland and Korth as the only underclassmen in program history to earn All-SEC honors. The sophomore from Spring Hill, Tennessee, posted a 9.875 NQS on beam, which ranked 12th in the conference. She reset career highs on three events this season with a 9.875 on vault, 9.825 on bars (twice) and 9.950 on beam, earning three individual victories on the latter.

Angeny also added an SEC Academic Honor Roll decoration to SEC All-Freshman and SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll accolades from last year.

Worley was named back-to-back SEC Freshman of the Week on Jan. 14 and Jan. 21. She completed the season with a 9.910 NQS on floor—tied for the seventh-best mark in the conference and 23rd in the country—and a 39.250 all-around NQS, which ranked eighth in the conference and tied for 28th overall.

The 4-foot-11 native of Riner, Virginia, claimed one individual victory on beam and three on floor. Her season highs were scores of 9.825 on vault, 9.875 on bars, 9.925 on beam, 9.950 on floor (twice) and 39.425 all-around. Worley is Kentucky’s seventh SEC All-Freshman gymnast since 2015.
