Kentucky Baseball Hosts Appalachian State in Weekend Series
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Coming off a convincing victory in its home opener the Kentucky baseball team returns to Kentucky Proud Park this weekend as it hosts Appalachian State in a three-game series. The first game is Friday afternoon with games to follow on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
Sophomore infielder Austin Schultz put on an offensive show in Tuesday’s 9-4 win over Southeast Missouri, going 3-for-4 with a double, home run and career-high four RBI. He teamed with freshman infielder John Rhodes (2-for-4, two runs, two RBI, triple) to spark the offense to a breakout.
On the mound, sophomore left-hander Braxton Cottongame drew his first collegiate start and pitched 3.2 strong innings before giving way to the bullpen, which saw junior right-hander Daniel Harper earn the win and sophomore right-hander Alex Degen strike out four in 2.0 innings to collect his first career save.
The Cats will send the same starting rotation to the mound this weekend with junior right-hander Jimmy Ramsey taking the ball on Friday, junior lefty Mason Hazelwood on Saturday and sophomore southpaw Dillon Marsh on Sunday.
