Cats Wrap Up Farnsworth-Ivy Plus, Milwaukee Tennis Classic

LEXINGTON, Ky. – After opening the 2019-20 season with the M15 Champaign, the Kentucky Wildcats men’s tennis team continued its fall slate with both the Farnsworth-Ivy Plus and Milwaukee Tennis Classic last weekend.

Five different Cats earned victories over the course of both tournaments for a total of 14 wins overall.

“The fall is all about improving and building for the spring,” said assistant coach Matthew Gordon. “We got some wins under our belt and competed well on the whole. The guys learned a lot this weekend, and now it’s back to work.”

At the Farnsworth-Ivy Plus, hosted annually on the campus of Princeton University, senior Parth Aggarwal served as the bright spot for Kentucky by advancing all the way to the finals of the Cordish Singles East bracket before falling 6-4, 6-0 to Indiana’s Vikash Singh.

Aggarwal teamed up with SMU’s Gardiner Perotti for an 8-6 win over Yale duo Ryan Cheng and Robby Shymanksy in Jadwin Doubles play, ultimately dropping an 8-1 decision to Mason Meier of Tennessee and Constantin Zoske of Harvard in the next round of the East region.

In the Tiger Singles East bracket, sophomore Kevin Huempfner defeated Yale’s Dylan King 6-2, 6-3 and Dartmouth’s Charlie Broom 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 before falling 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 to Evin McDonald of Texas in the semifinals.

At the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, freshman Gabriel Diallo underscored the weekend with a run to the third round of singles competition. The 6-foot-5 Montreal, Quebec, native defeated Florida Atlantic’s Jason Legall 7-5, 2-6, 6-0 in the first round and San Diego’s Joel Gamerov 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the second, only to be defeated 7-6 (4), 6-3 by Giovanni Oradini of Southeastern Conference foe Mississippi State.

Kentucky will resume fall play with its second ITF event next week. The M25 Norman, taking place at the University of Oklahoma, is scheduled to begin Monday, Sept. 30 and end Sunday, Oct. 6.
