Mabika Named to United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region Team

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky defender Aimé Mabika continued his trend of garnering accolades for his breakout redshirt-junior season, earning United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region first-team status on Monday.

Mabika was one of just six players from Conference USA named first-team Scholar All-South Region among the 33 total players dispersed among the first, second and third teams. The Lexington native posted a 3.51 GPA while majoring in English.

To be eligible for Scholar All-Region recognition, players must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better (on a 4.0 scale), start more than 50% of all games and significantly contribute to their team.

Mabika was named the C-USA Player of the Year and Co-Defensive MVP, as well as first-team All-Conference before being voted to the United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region first team. The 6-foot-6 former Henry Clay High School star anchored a UK defense that led the conference with nine shutouts.
