Jacobs, Paražinskaite Drop First Match of Season at Fall Nationals

by Cami Moore

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – Dropping their first doubles match of the fall season, graduate student Akvile Paražinskaite and redshirt junior Lesedi Jacobs fell in the doubles round of 16 to the No. 1-seeded duo at the International Tennis Association Fall Nationals in Newport Beach, California, on Thursday evening.

In their 11th doubles match played this season, unseeded Paražinskaite and Jacobs dropped to the highest seed in the field, Anna Rogers and Alana Smith of NC State, in a 6-0, 3-6 (8) decision.

The UK pair, now 10-1 in doubles this preseason, were not picked in the Oracle/ITA Preseason Top 60 prior to the start of fall action, though the pair only played together once during the 2019 regular season. The twosome has turned heads so far this fall, carding 10 straight wins and two tournament titles. Paražinskaite and Jacobs defeated the No. 20 doubles team in the nation in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday, advancing to the round of 16.

Jacobs, who was selected as an at-large candidate for the singles draw, dropped her first match in the singles consolation bracket on Thursday morning, falling to Chiara Tomasetti of Northern Arizona in a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 decision. Jacobs moves to a 6-4 singles record this fall.
