Collett Belts Team-Leading Fourth Home Run in Defeat
LEXINGTON, Ky. – T.J. Collett blasted his fourth home run of the season but Kentucky couldn’t hold a late lead, losing 12-3 to Boston College on Wednesday afternoon at Kentucky Proud Park. It was the Wildcats’ first defeat in their new home park.
The Cats (8-4) led 2-1 with two outs and the bases loaded in the eighth inning when reliever Jimmy Ramsey induced a ground ball to first base, but Boston College speedster Sam Frelick won the foot race to the bag and two runs scored to give the Eagles a lead it would not relinquish. It was just the fourth loss in 76 games the past three years when the Cats led after the seventh inning.
Collett gave the Cats an early lead with a solo home run onto the concourse in left-centerfield and scored the go-ahead run in the sixth after he doubled with two outs and came home on Jaren Shelby’s RBI single through the left side. The junior designated hitter now has three doubles and four home runs and notched his team-high fifth multi-hit game of the season.
UK will return to the field on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET when it hosts Middle Tennessee in the opener of a three-game weekend series. Saturday and Sunday’s games are set for 1 p.m. first pitches.
