Kentucky Draws USL side Louisville City

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky men’s soccer team got a quality result against the two-time defending USL Cup Champions Louisville City FC on Sunday at The Bell.

Sophomore-to-be (in the upcoming fall NCAA competitive season) Cole Guindon opened the scoring two minutes before halfitme firing a shot across goal and in at the left post. Guindon, a revelation in his freshman 2018 season, started 18 of 21 games he played last fall serving as a key cog in the nation’s No. 3 goals against average (.49) and shutout percentage (.64) defense.

Louisville City, which had 2016 Wildcat All-American Napo Matsoso play the last 22 minutes of the match, equalized three minutes before full time.

UK played 18 players in the Sunday friendly, which opened UK’s spring slate of games.

The Wildcats will also serve as host to play West Virginia on March 30.

Kentucky then will travel for three matches more before the spring semester ends.

The Wildcats return nine regular starters — including All-Americans Enrique Facusse and Aimé Mabika, in addition to All-Conference selections Kalil ElMedkhar, Jason Reyes and Leon Jones — from their record-setting 2018 season. Last fall, UK won the Conference USA double, set the school record for wins, reached the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight, went 5-1 against top-25 opponents and welcomed multiple 3,000-plus crowds to The Bell to name but a few accomplishments.
