Wildcats Set for Battle in the Bluegrass vs. Louisville on Monday Night

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Wildcats (0-0-1) are set for the 2026 edition of the Battle in the Bluegrass against the Louisville Cardinals (1-0-0) in a Monday night showdown at the Bell Soccer Complex.

Monday night’s meeting will be the 32nd match between Kentucky and Louisville in both programs’ history, with Kentucky leading the all-time series 15-10-6. Over the past 10 seasons, the Wildcats are 5-3-2 against their archrival, most recently drawing 2-2 in 2025.

In the season opener, Kentucky drew 2-2 in a come-from-behind effort against the Western Michigan Broncos, receiving goal contributions from Costa Iliadis and Tom Keller and an assist from Marcus Andersen. 13 players made their official Wildcat debuts in the season opener against Western Michigan, including nine of the 11 featured in the starting XI.

The Wildcats will look to claim their first win of the 2026 season on matchday two and continue their recent success over their archrival, before heading out on the road for their first away match against the Virginia Tech Hokies on Friday, Aug. 28 in Blacksburg, Va.

Louisville defeated IU Indy 2-1 in their season opening match on Thursday, thanks to a brace from forward Giacomo Zizza in his first career game for the Cardinals. Including Zizza, ten Cardinals made their Louisville debuts last week in the win over the Jaguars.

Kickoff for Monday night’s match is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on ESPN+. The game will also be Blue Out Night at The Bell, featuring as the Wildcats’ first regular season themed promotional night of the season.

Admission to all 2026 Kentucky Soccer regular season home matches will be free to the public. For the latest on Kentucky Men’s Soccer, follow the Wildcats on X, Facebook and Instagram, and on the web at UKAthletics.com.
