UK Rifle Def. Ohio State 4689-4647
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Kentucky rifle team scored 4689 to defeat Ohio State in its last regular-season two-team head-to-head match of the regular season on Sunday.
UK scored 2320 in smallbore leading by 15 after the first discipline. UK outscored Ohio State 2369-2342.
On Friday, UK fired its best road score of the season, its second straight total better than the 4700-threshold and its third best of the 2018-19 season, totaling 4701 on the Withrow Invitational held at Murray State University.
Will Shaner and Hailee Sigmon went 1-2 in the match’s overall aggregate standings with the pair of them firing 590+ air rifle scores.
Out of the scoring squad, Hanna Carr performed well, winning individual smallbore with a 585 – a point off her season best. Carr was fourth overall in the individual aggregate standings.
Smallbore report
Shaner had the top score on UK’s SB squad with a 584. Jason Spaude scored 581, Sigmon posted 579 and Richard Clark posted a 574.
Air rifle report
UK had the top-three air rifle scores with Will Shaner winning on 594, while Ruby Gomes and Sigmon were one point behind .
Ian Foos earned a 589 and Cathryn Papasodora posted 586.
Notes
Kentucky is ranked No. 4 in the current NCAA collegiate rifle rankings.
UK will have one more regular-season head-to-head match this spring – Feb. 9 at home vs. West Virginia.
Postseason will start with the NCAA Qualifier Feb. 16-17. The Great American Rifle Conference Championships will be Feb 22-24, and the NCAA Championships will be March 8-10.
UK’s season-high 4718 at the aforementioned KLRM on Oct. 13 was the second best score a team has turned in in the nation this season.
