Kentucky Gets First Place Vote, Picked Seventh in SEC Coaches’ Poll
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky softball team got a first-place vote in the 2019 Southeastern Conference preseason coaches’ poll released on Wednesday afternoon, and were picked to finish seventh in the league.
This is the highest that Kentucky has been picked to finish in the Southeastern Conference since the league coaches picked the Wildcats to finish third in 2015, following UK’s appearance in the 2014 Women’s College World Series. This was also the last time that Kentucky received a first-place vote.
Florida, the defending SEC champion, was picked to win the league with 10 first-place votes, followed by Georgia with two first-place votes. The Gators, Bulldogs and Wildcats were the only three teams to receive first-place votes.
Points for the poll were awarded on a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12 basis. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
SEC teams begin action on Thursday, Feb. 7. The 2019 SEC Softball Tournament will take place May 8-11 at Davis Diamond in College Station, Texas.
