UK Sports Network Launches Series of Podcasts

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Building on the success of current podcast offerings such as the “UK Coaches’ Radio Shows”, “Behind Kentucky Basketball”, “Above the Net: The Kentucky Volleyball Podcast”, and the recently launched “Mitch Barnhart Podcast”, the UK Sports Network announced the expansion of its podcast network to feature some of the most high-profile and trusted figures associated with UK sports.
 
UK Sports Network Podcasts will take fans behind the scenes of their favorite Wildcat teams, provide valuable insights and updates around each program, and tell original UK-related sports stories, as only the UK Sports Network can with its exclusive access to the UK Athletics program.
 
New podcast series highlights include:

  • “Behind Kentucky Football” with Tom Leach, Freddie Maggard and Jeff Piecoro
  •  “Legends of UK” with Tom Leach
  • “Behind Kentucky Baseball” with Darren Headrick

Kentucky Branded has signed on as a sponsor of the podcasts. All podcasts will be available for free listening on iTunes, SoundCloud, Stitcher and other popular platforms. The first episode of the “Behind Kentucky Football” podcast is available now on SoundCloud and Stitcher and will soon be available on iTunes. Like other UK Sports Network content, the podcasts can also be found on UKathletics.com, CoachCal.com, and the official UK Athletics app.

“Behind Kentucky Football” with Tom Leach, Freddie Maggard and Jeff Piecoro
Weekly podcast launching Sept. 14
Overview: Widely considered by fans and media as the ultimate Kentucky football insiders, Tom Leach, Freddie Maggard and Jeff Piecoro will give listeners an all-access view of the Wildcat program. As the official podcast of Kentucky football, “Behind Kentucky Football” will also feature analysis on topical issues surrounding the Wildcats and college football as a whole. Leach enters his 22nd season as the Voice of the Wildcats, handling the play-by-play calls for UK football and men’s basketball games. Maggard is the current UK football director of development and a former UK quarterback. He previously hosted the UK Sports Network pre-game radio show, as well as the popular “The Depth Chart Podcast”. Piecoro serves as color analyst alongside Leach for the UK Sports Network football game broadcasts and is a former Kentucky football wide receiver.
 
“The Mitch Barnhart Podcast”

Overview: For the first time ever, UK Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart will speak directly to the Big Blue Nation and, in his unfiltered voice, give insight into the inner workings of the UK Athletics Department. Barnhart will provide updates on the state of the program and also tap into his deep rolodex of sports administrators and power players to discuss topical issues in sports.
 
“Behind Kentucky Basketball” with TJ Beisner and Joel Justus
Weekly podcast currently airing and throughout the season
Overview: As the official podcast of Kentucky Basketball, “Behind Kentucky Basketball”, hosted by new CoachCal.com Editor TJ Beisner and UK men’s basketball assistant coach Joel Justus, will give fans an inside look into Kentucky men’s basketball program over the course of the season. Each podcast episode contains notes about practice, interviews with players and coaches, game previews and recaps, as well as answering questions from fans.
 
“Legends of UK” with Tom Leach
Airs day before/of home games beginning Nov. 1
Overview: Taking fans down memory lane with storytelling that only Tom Leach, the Voice of the Wildcats, can deliver, the “Legends of UK” podcast will celebrate the greatest UK legends and allows fans to hear the stories behind some of iconic moments and games in UK history from the legends themselves. Starting this season as a 20-part series honoring the top-20 living scorers in UK men’s basketball history, each episode will be a conversation between Leach and the player that encompasses his entire career and highlights the teammates, coaches and moments that helped shape his legacy. In the future, the podcast will encompass various themes celebrating UK Athletics history.
 
“Behind Kentucky Baseball” with Darren Headrick
Weekly podcast launching Feb. 2019
Overview: Hosted by Darren Headrick, the Voice of UK Baseball, “Behind Kentucky Baseball” will give fans a deeper look into the university’s program, covering the weekly news and stories unfolding over the course of the season. As the official podcast of Kentucky Baseball, episodes will include conversations with former and current Kentucky baseball players along with other special guests and notable figures around the program.
 
“Above the Net: The Kentucky Volleyball Podcast”
Weekly podcast currently airing and throughout the season
Overview: Hosted by Head Coach Craig Skinner and Volleyball P.A. announcer Don Hart, “Above the Net: The Kentucky Volleyball Podcast” gives fans a look inside the top-ranked program. The show also features discussion with a variety of guests including players, current and former NCAA volleyball coaches and prominent UK athletics figures.

Overview: Entering the 2018-19 season, the UK Sports Network will once again offer Wildcat fans the opportunity to listen to podcasts of their favorite UK Coaches Radio Shows. These shows feature exclusive interviews with each head coach and give fans an inside look at the football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball and baseball programs with the latest news and updates.
