UKXC Men’s Team Second, Women’s Team Fifth at Queen City Invite

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Kentucky men’s cross country team finished second with 77 points, 30 behind first-place Dayton to start the season on Saturday at the 5,000-meter NKU Queen City Invitational.
 
The UK women’s team placed fifth with 93 points. Ohio State won the women’s team competition with 68 points.

Men’s team report
Kendall Muhammad (fifth in 15:31.05) and Brennan Fields (eighth in 15:34.80) were Kentucky’s two top-10 finishers.
 
Freshman Trevor Warren placed 23rd in 15:50.70 in his Kentucky debut. Matthew Thomas (24th in 15:52.70 and Tanner Dowdy (31st in 16:07.10) rounded out Kentucky’s top-five scoring placers.
 
Women’s team report
Freshman Sophie Carrier was Kentucky’s top finisher, eighth overall, in 18:15.40 on Saturday.

Indeed UK’s next two to cross the finish line were also freshmen as Kaitlyn Lacy was 12th in 18:19.60 and Kelli Walsh was 18th in 18:34.00.
 
Caitlin Shepard (28th in 28:50.50 and Madisyn Peeples (29th in 18:50.70) ran together to round out Kentucky’s top five.
