Kentucky Swimmer Seidt Named SEC Swimmer of the Week
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky swimmer Asia Seidt was named Co-SEC Swimmer of the Week, announced by the Southeastern Conference Tuesday. The junior shares the honor with Erika Brown of Tennessee.
Seidt is awarded the recognition after delivering stellar performances in No. 18 Kentucky’s last appearance, a tri-meet in Columbia, Missouri, Nov. 1-2. She led the program to a sweep over Missouri and No. 23 Arkansas.
In the two-day, 38-event meet, Seidt boasted four individual wins – 100- and 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard butterfly. In addition, she helped Kentucky to a gold-worthy finish in the 400-yard medley relay, while also assisting the Wildcats with podium finishes in the 400-yard freestyle relay (2nd) and 200-yard medley relay (3rd).
Each of her four individual wins also earned spots inside the top-20 times in the nation recorded this season – 200-yard backstroke (1:55.89 – 11th in the nation), 200-yard individual medley (2:00.16 – 13th in the nation), 100-yard backstroke (53.83 – 15th in the nation) and 200-yard butterfly (1:58.99 – 20th in the nation).
In an event that doesn’t highlight her signature stroke, the Kentucky native set a new personal-best time recording a 1:58.99 in the 200-yard butterfly, which allowed her to move up one spot in the program record book. Originally ranked 10th all-time, she shed .29 off her previously recorded time to reach the ninth spot.
A testament to her versatility, Seidt earned a podium finish competing with each stroke. Moreover, she posted three NCAA “B” cut times in the single meet – 100- and 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard butterfly, while her record proves she has more room to shed time in those events and in others.
