Aimé Mabika Named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky Men’s Soccer Sophomore Defender Aimé Mabika was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after scoring Tuesday and playing a central role in a clean-sheet win on Friday.
He earned the honor for the second time this year after also being named Player of the Week Sept. 3.
Mabika has been a key part of a UK defense that has kept clean sheets in both of its C-USA games to date – including the one on Friday – and in five of six games overall.
Mabika has been a vital asset for Kentucky using his size to win headers at both ends of the field. That aerial ability was key helping the Wildcats shut out Charlotte’s direct attack last Friday.
He used his quick reactions and speed to snuff out the abundance of second balls as well against Charlotte.
He has two goals this year, both converted penalty kicks.
Kentucky will next play on Wednesday against ETSU. Kickoff at The Bell is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET.
