Kentucky Takes Down Columbia in New York, 5-2
New York – The Kentucky women’s tennis team began its weekend slate with a 5-2 victory over Columbia inside the Dick Savvitt Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
Kentucky (5-2) got off on the right foot, taking the doubles point with a pair of swift victories. On court three, Justina Mikulskyte and Diana Tkachenko were the first to strike sweeping CU’s Alli Pollack/Andrea Kevakian, 6-0. UK’s 26th-ranked duo of Emily Fanning and Mami Adachi sealed the point with a 6-1 victory in No. 1 doubles.
Kentucky quickly stretched its lead to 3-0 as Mikulskyte and Adachi each won in straight sets, but the Lions got on the board as freshman Brianna Tulloch fell 6-0, 6-2, in No. 6 singles.
Columbia (5-3) came within one as Lesedi Jacobs was defeated on court four, but Tkachenko came in clutch on court five, defeating Pollack in straight sets to clinch the win for Kentucky.
The Wildcats will be back in action on Sunday, facing their second Ivy League foe in as many days as they take on the undefeated Princeton Tigers at noon ET.
