Gruver, St. Hillaire Earn SEC Weekly Honors

by Jake Most

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky track and field junior Olivia Gruver was named Southeastern Conference Field Athlete of the Week, and Dwight St. Hillaire picked up SEC Freshman of the Week honors from the league office.

Gruver was named National Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday.

Gruver cleared 15’1″/4.60m to win the pole vault at the Kentucky Invitational inside Nutter Field House this past weekend. The clearance broke her absolute school record by two inches – which she cleared en route to the NCAA outdoor title last June, and improved upon her early-season NCAA leader.

It tied No. 7 performer on the all-time collegiate absolute list and equaled the No. 4 performer on the all-time collegiate indoor list.

St. Hillaire ran a strong season-opening 400m time of 46.55 to win in his home opener at the Kentucky Invitational.

That time ranks fourth nationally in the men’s quarter-mile, and is the fastest quarter-mile time by a freshman this year.
