After states throughout the Midwest and South were ravaged by an outbreak of severe weather on Friday, the American Red Cross has been accepting donations to help those affected. On Monday afternoon, John Calipari asked Kentucky fans to participate in the relief effort as part of a special initiative on Friday:

Although the outpouring of support has been tremendous with the help of you and the American Red Cross, the road to recovery for some is going to take time. Let’s continue to show our support for those affected by last week’s storms by doing everything in our power.While you’re watching Friday’s Southeastern Conference Tournament games on WKYT, Kentucky Cares is making it easy to help those in our state affected by last week’s tornadoes. On Friday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET, operators will be standing by to take donations for the American Red Cross. The phone number will be displayed Friday at 10 a.m.The first five callers – starting at 10 a.m. – to match our previous donation of $10,000 will join Ellen and I for lunch and a personal tour of the NEW Wildcat Coal Lodge. Mitch Barnhart and his wife, Connie, will join us for lunch.Join us and show everyone that Kentucky Cares.*Date for the lunch and tour with Coach Cal must be agreed upon by all five parties. The lunch and tour includes the donor and one guest (total of 10 guests).
