Rifle Falls to No. 10 Alaska-Fairbanks

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The fourth-ranked Kentucky rifle team ended
the fall portion of its schedule on Saturday after dropping just its second
match of the season. Tenth-ranked Alaska-Fairbanks came out on top, 4671-4667, on
Saturday.

“It is always disappointing when you have worked hard for
a period of time and don’t get the results you want,” head coach Harry Mullins
said. “I felt we were ready to perform at a high level this weekend – we did in
spurts – but did not see the numbers to reflect that. Now that we go into the
break, it will give us continued time to improve in the areas that we need so
that our scores increase and stay consistent.”

The Wildcats posted scores of 2363 in air rifle and 2304
in smallbore.

Hanna Carr finished in second place overall after a
strong 589 in air rifle, her fourth-best score to date, and a 579 in smallbore.
The Versailles, Kentucky, native led the team with an 1168 aggregate.

Heather Kirby fired her third-best score of the season
(595) in air rifle, which claimed the top individual spot in the discipline.
The senior added a 571 in smallbore for an 1166 aggregate and fourth place
overall.

Sonya May delivered for Kentucky and owned fifth place
overall after she fired a 586 in air rifle – her fourth-best score in the
discipline this season – then followed with a 580 in smallbore for an 1166
aggregate.

Billy Azzinaro tied the second-best smallbore score of
his career with a 588. The junior shot 574 in smallbore, giving him an 1162
aggregate and sixth place overall.

Cathryn Papasodora tied her second-best air rifle score
(591) and eventually shot 1162 for the match.

Jason Sharbel also tied his second best air rifle score
on the season.

Kentucky now sits at 10-2 overall and will break until
Jan. 14 when they face Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi at the Patricia C. Lamar
National Guard Readiness Center.
