Ware Named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky sophomore defensive end Denzil Ware was named Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week it was announced by the league on Monday.
Ware finished with five tackles, including a pair of sacks, in the Wildcats’ 17-10 victory over South Carolina in Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday night. The 6-foot-2, 255-pounder registered a crucial sack of Gamecocks’ quarterback Brandon McIlwain on 4th-and-17 from the Kentucky 35-yard line with 2:23 remaining in the game to thwart Carolina’s final comeback attempt. It was Ware’s first two-sack game of his career.
Kentucky’s defense turned in a tremendous effort in Saturday’s victory, holding the Gamecocks to 268 total yards and a season-low 10 points. Ware’s other sack ended a South Carolina possession in the third quarter.
The Opp, Ala. native leads Kentucky with 4.5 tackles for loss on the season and is tied with linebacker Josh Allen for the team lead in sacks with 3.0. He has 17 total tackles and two quarterback hits. For his career, Ware has 56 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and four sacks in 16 games.
