Kentucky’s Evangeline Soucie Placed on National Team of the Week
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky women’s soccer
goalkeeper Evangeline Soucie was named to the National Team of the Week it was
announced on Tuesday morning by TopDrawer Soccer, marking her as the best
goalkeeper in the country for the fourth week of women’s college soccer around
the nation.
On Thursday night, Soucie made a career-high
11 saves against the Southeastern Conference’s best offense, limiting the No.
5/1 Florida Gators to just two goals in over 100 minutes of action and forcing
the match into double overtime in both teams’ SEC opener.
In Sunday’s 5-0 win over the Murray State
Racers at the Bell Soccer Complex, Soucie earned her second shutout of the
season, making two saves in the match and pacing the Kentucky back line to its
best match of the season – allowing just four Racer shots in the 90.
Soucie earned the SEC’s Freshman of the Week
honor last week after her brilliant road performance in a 3-1 win at Louisville
in the “Battle of the Bluegrass” and backing up that Friday performance with a
Sunday shutout against High Point in a 3-0 win.
Soucie and the Wildcats return to the pitch on
Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. ET live on the SEC Network+ for a midweek fixture
with undefeated Southeast Missouri State. The match will be at the Bell Soccer
Complex in Lexington.
