UK Rifle Alum Henri Junghaenel to Compete at Olympics

RIO DE JANEIRO –Kentucky rifle alumnus Henri Junghänel will begin his 2016 Olympic Games campaign with qualification in 50-meter prone rifle on Friday at 8 a.m. ET. The final is scheduled for 10 a.m. ET.

Rio2016.com will provide live results. NBC owns the broadcast rights to the Olympic Games in the United States. The final is scheduled to be streamed on nbcolympics.com and via the NBC Olympics mobile app.

Junghänel is competing at his first Olympics. He won his fourth career International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup in April at the Rio Olympics Shooting Center in April during the competition which served as the test event for these Games.

“I am very excited for Henri,” Kentucky head coach Harry Mullins said. “Just competing in the Olympics is a big milestone. He has worked very hard for the chance to represent his country and compete in these Games. We wish him the best.”

Junghänel was named 2013 ISSF Shooter of the Year. He is the current world record holder in 50m prone finals with a score of 211.2 points. 

He was Kentucky’s shooting-average leader in both guns during the 2010-11 NCAA Championship season. He was a four-time All-America selection at Kentucky.
