Interactive Ring of Honor to Debut for Tennessee Game

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Through the construction of The New Commonwealth Stadium, University of Kentucky football greats have been recognized with a permanent Ring of Honor display throughout the lower concourse. Starting with UK’s game vs. Tennessee on Saturday, fans will be able to learn more about the best players and coaches in program history through an interactive experience on the official UK Gameday app.

The interactive Ring of Honor uses iBeacon – Apple’s implementation of Bluetooth wireless technology – to send information about the likes of Tim Couch, Dermontti Dawson, Steve Meilinger and more to fans with iPhones and Android devices. To access the interactive Ring of Honor, fans should download the official UK Gameday app and have Bluetooth enabled when they enter The New CWS.

When fans come within range of any iBeacon installed on the display for each of the 45 individuals in the Ring of Honor in the concourse at The New CWS, they will be prompted to open the UK Gameday app to view the interactive Ring of Honor experience. Fans will be able to view biographical information about each Ring of Honor member through the interactive Ring of Honor.

The UK Gameday app, available for free on the App Store and Android Marketplace, is the mobile home for UK Athletics. In addition to the interactive Ring of Honor, the app provides live game audio, live scoring and statistics, and the latest news and social media content about the Wildcats.

The new interactive Ring of Honor adds to a busy Saturday for UK football. UK is hosting SEC Nation, Halloween festivities, trick-or-treating, a concert and viewing of the Breeders’ Cup outside The New CWS before the Wildcats’ 7:30 p.m. matchup with rival Tennessee.
