LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 16 University
of Kentucky women’s soccer team dropped its first match of the 2015 season on
Sunday night as the San Diego State Aztecs kept a clean sheet and scored a goal
a half to down the Wildcats 2-0 at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer
Complex.

UK’s offense was held to just seven shots the
entire evening and three of them on target. The SDSU attack, which netted goals
in the 15th and 46th minutes to lock up the win,
attempted 11 shots with five on them on target.

The first SDSU goal came in the 15th
minute, as Angela Mitchell scored off a turnover on the UK backline and slotted
a ball past the outstretched arms of Kentucky freshman keeper Katelyn Jensen to
put the Aztecs on the board. UK would settle into the game and grab a hold of a
majority of the possession in the later stages of the first half, but were
unable to find an equalizer.

The second half started with SDSU on the ball
for kickoff, and the Aztecs took the ball right through the teeth of the
defense and scored via Milan Moses’ second goal of the 2015 campaign just 15
seconds into the second frame.

Kentucky had a handful of quality chances in
the game after it went down 2-0, including a laser from 30 yards out by Kaitlin
Miller who glazed one off the crossbar, and then Zoe Swift getting in a few
times, but unable to finish in the final third.

UK caps off its weekend 1-1-0 overall with a
top-20 win against the Washington Huskies on Friday night. The Wildcats are
back in action on Friday, Aug. 28 against UNC Greensboro with a 5 p.m. ET
kickoff as the commencement of a UK Soccer doubleheader at the Bell Soccer
Complex.
