LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s tennis team announced the addition of Austin Hussey from Edgewood, Ky., on Thursday afternoon, as the Wildcats added the top-ranked high school in the state of Kentucky to its roster.

“We are very excited to have the opportunity to work with Austin and his family,” UK head coach Cedric Kauffmann said, who enters his third year at the helm of the UK tennis program. “The love that he has for the game, and the drive that he has to get better was a crucial part for me in the recruiting process. Austin has the make-up to be a very successful player at the college level. He will have to put in a lot of difficult work, but we can’t wait to get started working with him. We are excited to welcome him to our family.

Hussey was ranked as the top player in the state of Kentucky in 2014, and reached as high as No. 35 in the 2014 national rankings for TennisRecruiting.net. Hussey was the 2013 Kentucky High School state champion and finished in the top 25 nationally in the United States Tennis Association’s Boy’s 16’s rankings.

“I could not be more excited to welcome Austin to our Wildcat family,” assistant coach Matt Emery said. “He is a tenacious competitor who knows how to win, and his record shows that. Being from Kentucky, Austin also bleeds blue. He has been the best player in Kentucky since he was 12 years old, and we can’t wait to help take his game to the next level.”

Hussey also has strong marks in premier tournaments, as he finished in the top eight at the 2013 Easter Bowl, as well as finishing in the final 16 of the 2013 Orange Bowl. The Edgewood, Ky., and Covington Catholic High School player finished in the top 16 of the 2013 USTA Nationals in Kalamazoo, Mich.
